Recently, China has been continuously testing various types of sixth-generation fighter jets, which has attracted global attention. The army is not to be outdone and has launched a military 5G solution.

It is reported that this is the world's first mobile 5G base station application. This base station was jointly developed by China Mobile Communications Group and the military and can provide unprecedented high-speed, low-latency and extremely secure and reliable data exchange services for at least 10,000 users within a radius of 3KMs (1.8 miles). Even if the troops advance at a speed of 80km per hour.

Unmanned equipment cooperates with the battlefield

From the above news reports, we can see that this is a 5G high-speed base station applied in a mobile environment. The application of 4G/5G base stations on the battlefield is not special news. As early as during the war in Afghanistan, the US military deployed 4G base stations on the battlefield and combined them with smart terminals to achieve battlefield communications.

However, the currently known mobile communication base station applications are all fixed-point applications, which are deployed within a specified range to provide high-speed Internet access services within a small range.

From the news report, it can be seen that this application is in a mobile environment, which means that the troops can still provide high-speed Internet access services while marching at a speed of 80 km per hour.

This is very useful in the current battlefield situation. A large number of unmanned equipment requires high-speed and stable network interaction data. A large number of drones, drones, and robots need to transmit massive amounts of data and have strong control capabilities, which is not something that general network technology can solve.

Although the current broadband wireless ad hoc network can solve some applications, it is still inferior to the 5G private network in terms of transmission bandwidth and stability.

5G battlefield robot application scenarios

The biggest advantages of 5G private networks are low latency and high bandwidth. Lockheed Martin and telecommunications company Verizon have worked together to build a similar demonstration system and are conducting small-scale tests. According to public information, the US military's military 5G system has a latency of up to 30 milliseconds when transmitting data between two Hummers 100 meters (328 feet) apart. This standard will never meet China's requirements.

We also noticed that the current transmission distance of its 5G solution is 3 kilometers, which is very close from the perspective of wireless communication. However, from the battlefield characteristics of radio, the longer the coverage distance, the more serious the interference and exposure will be.

Therefore, from the perspective of the battlefield, wireless communication is not the farther the better. Judging from the current international wars, the use of unmanned equipment to strangle the front line of the battlefield is a common offensive and defensive method on the battlefield.

Networking situation of unmanned battlefield

If drones, robots, and unmanned combat vehicles are deployed 3kms ahead of the battlefield, this may be the key to victory or defeat in the war.

This also explains why the emphasis is placed on 5G network coverage during mobile travel. During the high-speed advancement process, 5G coverage can ensure that there are sufficient unmanned forces for attack and reconnaissance 3kms away, which will be a tactical breakthrough.

According to public data, this system can still maintain a continuous transmission speed of 10Gb/s in complex terrain areas such as mountains or cities, and when moving at a speed of 80kms per hour and being subject to electromagnetic interference, and the delay will not exceed 15 milliseconds.
